Managing Director​

EgoPo Classic Theater in Philadelphia seeks a dynamic Managing Director to work with the Founding Artistic Director, Staff and Board to lead the company into its next exciting phase.

EgoPo, now in its 30th season, produces innovative versions of classic plays to create an inclusive canon and provide opportunities for sharing stories across cultural divides. EgoPo’s themed festival seasons provide audiences with year-long artistic journeys. EgoPo has a $320,000 budget, a 3-person full-time staff, a subscription/membership base of 300 and audience of 3,000, and a reputation for ambitious theater-making. EgoPo is at an exciting moment of growth, currently in planning for a new home theater.

The Managing Director leads all Administrative, Development, and Marketing areas for the company, working alongside a full-time Associate Producer, a full-time Management Assistant, and project-based production/artistic staff. The Managing Director reports directly to the Executive/Artistic Director.

Areas of responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

30% - General Administration & Leadership

  • Execute on Mission & Strategic Plan in collaboration with the staff and directed by the Artistic Director.

  • Oversee all financial operations, including execution of monthly bookkeeping

  • Monitor operating and production budgets in cooperation with Associate Producer

  • Negotiate contracts with artists, presenters, and outside vendors

  • Execute daily operations including payroll and bill payments

40% - Development & Fundraising

  • Oversee private and board fundraising, stewarding small and major donors.

  • Grant research, Grant applications, and Reporting for Project and General Operating

  • Plan and execute Fundraising events, including Annual Gala and Opening Nights

  • Board Relations, attending bi-monthly board meetings and regular Committee meetings

  • Work with Board and Artistic Director to plan upcoming Capital Campaign

30% - Marketing & Engagement

  • Execute show marketing including email, digital & print advertising, and website in collaboration with the Management Assistant

  • Oversee Publicity in collaboration with press agent

  • Manage cross-collaborative engagement with season partners

  • Manage Box Office & Subscriber relations including ticket processing, and staffing

Ideal Qualifications include:

  • Significant experience in arts management w/ record of organizational leadership and management. MA or MFA in arts management ideal but not required.

  • Professional and/or Academic background in producing & creating theater in a wide-array of positions

  • Ability to collaborate deeply to produce ambitious, vision-forward, inclusive theatrical work

  • Strong writing skills including background in grant writing

  • Strong verbal skills including background in patron and donor relations

  • Strong financial background and knowledge of Quickbooks, or ability to learn

  • Track record of leading fundraising initiatives and securing major donors

  • Experience integrating diversity, equity, and inclusion into day-to-day work

  • Knowledge of Photoshop a plus, or willingness to learn

  • Knowledge of Tessitura ticketing system or similar system a plus, or willingness to learn

  • Ability to work in a highly productive work environment, requiring self-motivation and flexibility.

Salary: $52,000 plus health insurance with 50% company contributions and a flexible vacation package. Approximate start date: July 1 with flexibility.
